The mission of
the American River Parkway Foundation is to foster environmental stewardship, facilitate volunteer
opportunities and fund projects and programs on the American
River Parkway that support the preservation, protection,
enhancement and appreciation of the parkway natural resources.
Every year
thousands of volunteers join forces for the Great American River Clean Up.
The volunteers include cyclists, scuba divers, equestrians, anglers, runners,
and paddlers. Local businesses, schools and service organizations also come out
and volunteer for this event.
In 2008 the clean up
will be conducted September 20th, from 9am to 12noon.

Sponsorship Information:
Participation
in the Great American River Clean Up is a real contribution to the health of the
Parkway and river. Removing trash and debris prevents pollutants from entering
the watershed, harming the wildlife, or creating hazards for recreational users.
Additionally, keeping the Parkway clean protects ocean life by preventing trash
from being washed downstream during the winter rains.
The Great
American River Clean Up is held in conjunction with the Coastal Cleanup Day
sponsored by the California Coastal Commission. This annual cleanup is held
throughout California along bays, creeks, lakes rivers, highways, and the coast.
