Volunteer Mile Stewards

Volunteer Mile Stewards

What?

In 1993, the ARPF founded the “Adopt-the-Parkway” initiative. The centerpiece of this initiative is the Mile Steward program. Volunteer stewards adopt each of the 23 miles of Parkway along both banks of the river. There are 46 Mile Stewards on the American River Parkway!

Why?

This program allows individuals, businesses, and organizations to have a close, personal stake in the well-being of the Parkway. Mile Stewards take on the challenge of cleaning and conserving the American River Parkway that so many love and use. They also act as the eyes and ears of the Parkway Foundation for all reaches of the Parkway.

What's Involved

  • Mile Stewards make a two-year commitment to serve at least 20 hours per quarter on their mile.
  • Stewards complete clean-up, trail maintenance, weed removal and other activities, and report any issues on their mile.
  • Each year, Mile Stewards provide 3500+ hours of service!
