The 2008 American River
Parkway Foundation (ARPF) Down River Day was the 24th year of the
event. The weather was perfect, and more than 400 participants enjoyed
the tremendous event.
Each year corporations sponsor a raft and enjoy the
ride from American River Raft Rental, at Sunrise down to River Bend Park,
formerly Goethe. After the raft ride, participants enjoy a wonderful catered
meal and live entertainment. A silent auction is also part of the evening activities
with many fabulous items such as weekend get-a-ways, golf foursomes and fly
fishing expeditions.
Proceeds from the 2008 event will assist the
Foundations’ stewardship programs. These programs include:
 |
Adopt the Parkway, a year-round group
volunteer cleanup program, |
 |
Invasive Plant Management Program, an
intensive volunteer effort to rid the Parkway of invasive weeds, |
 |
In My
Backyard (IMBY), a program which fosters grassroots clean-up,
maintenance and restoration efforts, and |
 |
Great American River Clean-Up in
September of each year. |
