Thank you for your interest in volunteering on the American River Parkway! The Foundation recruits hundreds of volunteers annually to assist with preservation, restoration, and maintenance projects within the American River Parkway.
We welcome volunteers of all ages on a one-time, occasional or ongoing basis. Please sign up to be added to the Volunteer e-mail distribution list to receive notifications of upcoming volunteer opportunities. For all volunteer opportunities with the American River Parkway Foundation, volunteers under the age of 18 must obtain parental consent and be accompanied by an adult. We will gladly provide proof of community service.
Volunteer opportunities:
- Community River Clean up Events
- Plan your own Volunteer Day!
- Adopt the Parkway Volunteer Stewardship
- Invasive Plant Removal with the Sacramento Weed Warriors
- Special Projects Volunteer Days
Community Clean Up Events The Parkway Foundation organizes periodic public river clean ups. Please visit our blog for upcoming events, or check our calendar for this year's dates. Events include an Earth Day Clean Up, holiday Keep the Parkway Clean events and the Great American River Clean Up, in which over 1,000 volunteers participate. If you welcome additional responsibility, please contact the Parkway Foundation at info@arpf.org to be a site coordinator for a community event.
Plan your own Volunteer Day! Interested groups of five or more can plan trash cleanup work days at your convenience. Please contact us a few weeks in advance to schedule and select a location appropriate for your group. We will provide trash bags and free parking passes, and will schedule a brief training session with your group.
Adopt the Parkway Volunteer Stewardship: If your group will be able to volunteer on a regular basis, please consider adopting a mile as a Volunteer Steward. Volunteer Stewards are asked to make a two-year commitment and work on their mile a minimum of 20 hours per quarter (80 hours per year). In recognition of your efforts, your name will be printed on a sign posted along the bike trail and listed on our website (www.arpf.org/sponsors.htm). The Parkway Foundation can assist you with planning events that include pruning, horse trail maintenance, graffiti removal and restoration projects within your adopted mile. Volunteer Stewards are also encouraged to receive training in Invasive Plant recognition and removal techniques. If you are interested in participating in the Adopt the Parkway program as a Financial Sponsor, please click here (http://www.arpf.org/adopt.htm) for details.
Invasive Plant Removal with the Sacramento Weed Warriors: The Weed Warriors are hard at work the first Saturday of every month from 8:45 am to 12:00 noon. Registration is required if you plan to attend; it is important for us to know how many tools and other supplies are needed. Please let us know if you have a group of 10 or more and are interested in scheduling an invasive plant removal project. If you would welcome additional responsibility and training, you might want to consider becoming a Team Leader with the Invasive Plant Patrol. Please e-mail sacweedwarriors@arpf.org to receive monthly notifications regarding the Weed Warriors events, to register for an event or to receive information regarding Team Leader training. Please visit the ARPF calendar for upcoming events and to sign up online.
The Foundation also has occasional need for volunteers at Special Events such as our Down River Day fundraiser. If you are on our Volunteer e-mail distribution list you will receive appeals for special event volunteers.
Thank you to all our volunteers for choosing to dedicate your time to the beautification and preservation of the American River Parkway!
